Welcome to Dr Mazeppa Pompazoidi's Home Page!

Gailard Sartain, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma had his sights set on obtaining a Masters in Art from the University of Tulsa.  He was side lined when his job as a cameraman for KOTV in Tulsa led to his late night show Dr Mazeppa Pompazoidi’s Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting. The show wrapped around old movies and cartoons on Saturday nights.  It became an instant hit with the teenagers in Tulsa.  True or not:  the police loved Mazeppa because all the kids were off the streets on Saturday night and home in front of the television.

Jim Halsey, a well-known talent agent, saw Sartain on Mazeppa and suggested that he join the Hee Haw Cast.  Sartain did so in 1972 and remained on the show until it was cancelled in 1992.  Along with cast members Roy Clark and Buck Owens, Sartain was a regular in several recurring sketches.

Along the way, Sartain has been in over 60 films and tv shows. His  serious side can be seen in films such as Mississippi Burning, Guilty by Suspicion and Alan Rudolph films.   His comedy side abounds in Hollywood Knights, Hey Vern it’s Ernest, Ernest Goes to Jaill, Ernest goes to Camp.  He sings “Chantilly Lace” as the Big Bopper in The Buddy Holly Story which garnered an Oscar nomination for Gary Busey.

Sartain is also a very accomplished artist.  All of the art cards on the Mazeppa Show are his original art.  His art can be seen on fellow Tulsan Leon Russell’s  Will O’ The Wisp album.
